Holly at LuciteBox vintage asked me to point out that even though she’ll be away from the 22nd-28th, she’ll be shipping once again on the 29th, as well as the discount rate (15% off anything on the site) as well as the donation (10% to books with Bars in honor of the purchaser) still applies up until the 27th!

And I missed a whole slew of stuff from Pamela (of GlamourStitch, GlamourSavvy, as well as GlamourSurf … as well as Glamoursurf, by the way, is providing 20% off with Dec 31, go into the key phrase “Santa”)

So you might get a discount rate on something like this:

Or this:

Or you might just head over to Glamourstitch for this:

Or to Glamoursavvy for these boudoir shoes, which if they were my size, would have never seen the light of blog (despite the truth that my nightwear now consists solely of exercise clothes, so as to obviate one much more reason to prevent the treadmill, as well as these would look outrageous with Target flare-leg yoga pants):

Whew! Okay, now I believe that’s it. however if not, email me!

A Linktastic Friday to end All Linktastic FridaysMay 16, 2008
I believed you ought to knowNovember 20, 2007

thanks to Sarah Mitchell for this image.

The dress and hat are by designer Andre Tan, and were shown at Kiev’s fashion Week. (Don’t even breathe “Kiev has a fashion week?” unless you want to be inundated with stirring nationalistic email from the Ukraine.)

I like the dress quite a bit, but I’m not so sure about the hat. first of all, I’d be completely frustrated by this both as a wearer and as an onlooker. how could I read it either way, unless the person wearing it was exactly the ideal height to put this at my eye level? and are you allowed to turn the page of a book when it’s resting on someone else’s head, or is that an invasion of their personal space? and is it removable, so that you can coordinate the content your bookhat to the rest of your outfit? Obviously, I’d like to wear retro cookbooks or romantic-advice books with some of my 1950s dresses, steampunk science fiction with my a lot more future-Victorian outfits (okay, I don’t have any future-Victorian ensembles, but if I could wear a book on my head to match you’d know damn sure I’d get some!) and so on. The terrific Gatsby with a white linen shift dress. Catch-22 with anything with militaristic detailing. Oh, god, stop me! Stalky & Co. with schoolboy chic. Clan of the Cave Bear with anything furry.

Anyway: too lots of questions, not enough answers. and even if all the answers were in THAT BOOK, I’d never know!

Moths in the Pocketbook [caution: long entry]July 2, 2007

TOP: Tibi (also like this gingham top!)  | wide LEG PANTS: Milly (affordable alternative HERE)  |  denim JACKET: Treasure & Bond  |  STRAW BAG: Clare V. (also like THIS ONE)  |  SLIDES: old, similar right here and HERE  |  BELT: Halogen

Work has brought us to the west coast this week and I have to state I’m thrilled for the reason to escape the dreary nyc weather.  Today, I’m using these white wide leg pants and this pretty gingham top which I spotted in Nordstrom’s getaway Guide.  Both pieces seemed perfect for a expert daytime ensemble in sunny palm Springs, and comfortable to boot.  As things cool off, I have this denim jacket at the ready, which is one of my favorite discovers of late.  The laundry and cut is perfect and the denim material has an incredible softness without losing its shape.  For under $80, it doesn’t get much better.

I also packed this perfect striped Rails shirt which will be fantastic for lazy moments by the pool or buttoned-up and tucked into these bermuda shorts. I am all about the bermuda short length going into spring and summer, and can’t wait to wear them dressed up with heels and a blazer for a company laid-back ensemble.  I also packed this off-shoulder sweatshirt dress which is another adorable (and affordable!) discover from Nordstrom’s getaway Guide which proved to be my one-stop-shop when prepping for the trip.

If you’re headed anywhere warm soon, inspect more of my favorites below!

Thanks to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for partnering on this post!

I know people worry that capes and ponchos make them look like shapeless blobs, which is why today I’m showcasing one of my favorite tricks to allay said fears of blobdom.  I belted the front sections of this new favorite cape which accentuates the waist, and allowed the back to fall without restriction.  By belting just the front, there’s a great contrasting silhouette created—further highlighting the waistline—and also reducing the amount of bulk under the belt which makes the look très confortable.  Depending on the thickness of the cape and the overall outfit, I’ve also often belted both the front and back of capes in the past, so just to be clear, I’m an equal-opportunity cape belter.

You may not want to sport the cape all day if you’re headed to the office, so I’m wearing this long button front shirt underneath that looks great belted on its own as well.  Since only the front two pieces of the cape are belted, it’s very easy to just slip the pieces right out without adjusting the tightness of the belt.

I’ve become a bit of a hoarder of white shirts, one of my top workwear staples, but I have to say that this theory number is one of my very best purchases of late.  It isn’t billed as a “non-iron” but absolutely is in practice.  It recently made it to Wisconsin and back in my suitcase without me having to break out the iron or steamer.  Plus, the long length looks great layered under chunky knits, as you can see I recently did here on instagram.

Last but certainly not least, these suede pumps are new favorites as well, and as indicated in the close-up photos above, they have darling bow detailing on the heels.  I look forward to showing off this little party in the back with skirts and cropped pants in the near future.  I also have to say that these shoes are honestly among the most comfortable  I’ve encountered of late—not a smidge of rubbing or stiffness from the get-go.  And, at this price point, that’s pretty darn good.

I hope you all had an amazing, restful new Years holiday!  Happy 2016!!

A brand defined by its art , ROOK was established in 2014 by two illustrators: Joe King and Jonathan Garcia. having already worked within the industry, the two good friends chose to begin a company based on selling distinct metropolitan clothing. Their purpose, as revealed on their official site is: ‘‘to show that high quality art can as well as ought to be strong sufficient to produce a brand’s identity” .  What I truly think about fantastic is the truth that the owners of Rook haven’t provided up on their private careers. As illustrators they produce a specific type of art that is an motivation for those who want to go after their dreams. You can see Joe King’s site as well as you can search with the gallery of Jonathan Garcia HERE. I’ve looked with their illustrations as well as I discovered a similar pattern that expresses a advancement in metropolitan art. Therefore Rook is the location where their concepts are combined, defining their own identity.

Their newest collection is finest represented within the pages of their Adventure Time Lookbook. Their experience Time tee shirts are ideal assets for a day spent in an adventurous city or even better, a day  at house viewing the animated TV series. the weather

all of the odd action figures at his desk

how chilly it is outside

how chilly it is inside

whether he expects to get a lot more odd action figures for Hanukkah or Christmas

this weather condition though…

If you reach the end of this listing as well as your work buddies haven’t saved you yet, just play dead.

A few weeks back rich as well as I went to a black tie event with service colleagues as well as I had the enjoyment of using this gorgeous Jill Stuart number (which is CRAZYYY on sale here right now).  I was really lucky sufficient to discover this gem on lease the Runway , which is an incredible resource if you’re not looking to invest in an costly gown.  For me, it was the best dress for the occasion: formal and festive, however not uncomfortably exposing in a expert environment.

DRESS: Jill Jill Stuart c/o lease the runway  |  COAT: Adrienne Landau c/o lease the runway  |  SHOES: Stuart Weitzman (similar here)  BAG: Franchi c/o lease the runway  |  EARRINGS: Jules Smith c/o lease the runway  |  LIPS: Nars (Bansar)

Whether you’re headed for a laid-back gathering over lunch with work buddies, a service formal gathering in your office building, a swanky mixed drink celebration at a regional venue, or a black tie event, I hope the below guide will assist stimulate some ideas!  As you can see, it’s organized into four general categories: laid-back office party, service formal office party, expert mixed drink party, as well as black tie event.   Keep in mind that lots of of the pieces in each classification might crossover, depending upon exactly how you wear them.

As always, be cautious about striking the ideal balance between joyful as well as proper at these kinds of work events.  A sequined pencil skirt would definitely be strange for a celebration in your office where a lot of are in holiday service clothes (like the ensembles in this publish or this post), however if it’s a formal mixed drink celebration at an upscale venue, the sequins may add just the right festive touch to the otherwise expert pencil skirt silhouette.

I understand I handled to talk about this (at excellent length) before–the issue I’ve had with the Duro-dress shape is that it somehow demands new shoes for the new proportion. I had discovered summertime shoes, but, if you hadn’t noticed, summertime has slipped away. It has already *snowed* right here in Chicago!

The new shoes I discovered are the ones at left, which satisfy my stringent shoe demands (not as well high a heel, ankle strap, round toe) as well as have the added benefit of making a lovely resonant clomping noise if you truly stomp. (I swear, I’m perpetually six years old.) plus the platform wedge makes you a great deal taller without the concomitant foot pain of “real” heels.

I likewise handled to track them down in brown. I was lured by the red ones — who isn’t lured by red ones? — however I haven’t handled to effectively wear red shoes since eighth grade. buy them, yes. handle to leave the home in them? No.

I have these perpetual dreams of ending up being (at this late stage) one of those elegant minimalists; somebody who buys two of everything, one black as well as one brown (or red, or cream) as well as eases with life effortlessly coordinated, slippery as an eel. This, as you may imagine, stays only a dream. every time I work towards this suitable (which in my head is sometimes called the “live like a stereotypical designer project”), perhaps by making five similar skirts in boring colors, I am distracted by something shiny as well as whoops, I’m off once again in some wild print, leaving the bad dark-brown skirt moping in the closet.

The closest I ever get to that blissful minimalist specify is by managing to sew a series of wild prints in a similar color family, so at least I can get by with a few pairs of monochrome tights as well as a couple of cardigans. as well as two pairs of shoes, one black, as well as one brown. If I’m lucky, as well as I don’t get distracted by patterned tights as well as sweaters, this mainly works.

Does anyone right here have the expert-recommended two- or three-color closet? exactly how do you do it?

I Don’t understand What You people Are ThinkingSeptember 18, 2007

keep in mind this fabric? and this pattern, which I made into this dress? Well, I didn’t have enough of the car fabric (damn directional print!) so I thought, oh! PLAID! Of COURSE!

But there was no method in hell that I was going to match a plaid with a large repeat across eight gores, so I put a customized circle skirt on it, instead.

I’m not rather sure I did a good enough job on the plaid (it matches perfectly at the BACK, I swear! across the zipper, and everything!) but it’s as well late now, and besides, there’s piping at the midriff! That ought to break it up a bit. I have realized, actually, just now, why I am so consumed with midriff lines — I’m so shortwaisted that breaking it up makes me a bit longer from take on to waist. Or, at least, that’s the idea.

I’m using this to give a talk on Saturday. The idea is: if you can’t be entertaining, be attractive (although, I promise, I am going to try for entertaining, too!). Once, for providing an academic paper, I used a bright green 1960s Jackie O.-style shift and jacket. The jacket had jeweled buttons and I had, by complete coincidence, matching green and white shoes. I keep in mind the attire in more detail than the paper!

It needs a good pressing but even I’m not masochist enough to iron something tonight that will be in a suitcase for twelve hours tomorrow. (And even hotel irons can press well if you utilize a moist washcloth as a pressing cloth.) I truly desire I had grey suede wedge heels, but that’s pushing it, even for me. (I *do* have a yellow bag.)
